About our Program

Cape Breton Crime Stoppers Program began in June 1987 with the help of former Cape Breton Regional Police Chief Edgar MacLeod.

Our Program now operates as an independent organization. The concept has developed into a combination of efforts by local media, businesses, civic and social clubs, law enforcement agencies, and the public. Donations of airtime, newspaper space, and reward monies have established Crime Stoppers as an effective tool to fight crime in the area. Crime Stoppers in Cape Breton alone has helped recover over 1.2 million dollars in stolen property and removed 4 million dollars of drugs off of our streets.

Mission Statement

Crime Stoppers is dedicated to serving the community, with the help of volunteers, to establish a partnership of the public, police and media to provide a proactive program to anonymously assist in solving crime and contributing to an improved quality of life.
